South Africa’s Cape Town is a whole other world, within a country. A city, but with the infrastructure and feel of a familiar town. A place where mountains and ocean come together. A place where you can be within the hustle and bustle of a metropolis but can escape it all and be in nature within a fifteen minute drive. Add an iconic mountain into the mix and you end up with the perfect characteristics for a Table Mountain adventure elopement.
Table Mountain elopement
Cape Town is also the place where I met Kim and Zee. Kim is Dutch, just like me and Zee is originally from Cameroon. Such a kind, beautiful couple. They spend a few months a year in South Africa, so it all worked out perfectly for all of us. Table Mountain was showing off on our magical evening together. We could see the Mother City below us light up, as the sun was setting through the clouds, into the ocean.
South Africa is one of the best countries to elope. With an immense variety of stunning scenery. From mountains to oceans, it’s all here.
How to plan a Table Mountain adventure elopement
To plan your elopement on Table Mountain, can be very tricky to navigate. There are quite a few things to take into account.
- The weather: You need to be prepared to be flexible, as weather is a very important factor. I personally love moody weather, but if winds are too strong for example, the cable cars close. Which means, that you can’t safely get up or down the mountain anymore.
- Navigating Table Mountain cable cars: depending on the time of the year, the cable car-times vary a lot. For a beautiful sunset elopement, you need to be able to plan around the cable car schedule.
- Getting a permit: for weddings on top of Table Mountain, one needs a permit in some situations.
- Crowds on the mountain: aim of the game, is to find a spot without too many tourists. You can expect other people to be on top of Table Mountain, it’s one of the ‘seven wonders of nature’ after all. However, if you know your way around the mountain’s escarpment, one can find a quiet place to say your vows just fine.
