This safari elopement in Tanzania, was something else. What an adventure! Rachel and Valmond flew out from Singapore to meet me in Arusha National Park, one of Tanzania’s underestimated little gems.
Many people skip Arusha National Park when they visit Tanzania. The moment they land at Kilimanjaro Airport, they hop on their next flight straight into the Serengeti. These two were also heading there, but I’m so glad that Rachel and Valmond decided on an in-between-stop. Because Arusha National Park, even though smaller than the Serengeti, has it all. A tropical forest, wide open plains, waterfalls, plenty of iconic African mammals, lakes full of flamingos… what more could you possibly ask for?
When Rachel and Valmond emailed me, it was instantly clear that we would have an amazing time as we had so much in common. The biggest thing? Adventure. The hunger for the unknown. For nature, places, people. They got engaged in Nepal, at Annapurna Base Camp and were going to climb Kilimanjaro after their elopement. Climbing Kili is a dream of mine too, so we had so much to talk about!
Places to stay
When it comes to places to stay, there is only one lodge situated within Arusha National Park itself. It’s called Hatari Lodge and has a very rich history. If you’d rather stay outside of the park, then Mt. Meru Game Lodge comes highly recommended. It’s a small, family-run lodge that has been there for decades. Again, like Hatari, this lodge also has a rich history. I personally love staying here when I’m in Tanzania!
Take a look at how we explored Arusha National Park together. We took a safari through the reserve seeing zebras and giraffe, visited flamingos at Momela Lakes, felt like little dwarfs next to the Tululusia waterfalls and stood under a giant fig tree. An adventure elopement day that I will remember forever.
