When planning an elopement in South Africa, the first thing you’ll notice is the huge variety of landscapes to choose from. In this blog, I will list a few of the options and places to help you decide on where to elope in South Africa.
It’s one thing to decide to elope in South Africa. But then, to decide where to elope in South Africa, that’s a whole other puzzle to figure out. It helps to envision the feeling first. What is it that you’d like to experience? What elements need to really be there? Because mind you, our country as it all. From mountains, to beaches and incredible wilderness – all you need to do, is figure out where you’d want to be.
South Africa safari elopement in Limpopo
Imagine saying your vows in the middle of the bushveld with wildlife roaming across the plains in front of you. There’s nothing like immersing yourself in nature, a safari elopement does just that. If you’ve got luck on your side, you might even end up with wildlife like giraffe in your wedding photos. Consider the Waterberg- and Lowveld regions of Limpopo, both areas have great safari lodges that are perfect for an intimate safari wedding.
A few examples of safari lodges in this area are Mhondoro Safari Lodge and Marataba Luxury Lodges.
South Africa Hiking elopement
Whether it’s a short or a long hike, getting to your elopement location on foot has a special kind of magic to it. The surprise on my couples’ faces once we turn the corner and they see the view I have hooked them up with, never gets old. South Africa’s Franschhoek en Stellenbosch regions make great elopement locations with several beautiful short- and longer hikes to choose from. Want to go a little more extreme? Then a hiking elopement in South Africa’s Drakensberg mountains might be for you.
Ocean and mountains, a Cape Town elopement wedding
Cape Town and the Western Cape as a whole, provide you with an abundance of ever-gorgeous elopement locations. You can’t go wrong with the combination of the blue Atlantic Ocean and dramatic mountains in the background. Chapman’s Peak, Kommetjie and Scarborough are definitely some favourites. As the garden route is right around the corner, it’s a no-brainer to hit the road after your elopement and drive from hidden gem to hidden gem.
Helicopter elopements
Hire a helicopter to fly to otherwise inaccessible places. Crazy expensive? Not when you compare South African rates with those in for example Australia or the US, no. It’s certainly a hell of a lot cheaper than the average wedding venue. Using a helicopter to get to your elopement location opens up a whole new range of otherwise hard-to-reach elopement wedding spots. It’s also the ideal way to escape the crowds, especially in the peak summer season.
I hope this starter guide on where to elope in South Africa has shed some light on the possiblities. Do you need help with navigating your South Africa elopement wedding? I specialise in co-creating meaningful elopement experiences with my couples and would love to see your dreams come true too.
